As a special Valentine’s Day surprise, today Rise Up Foundation visited Diamond Elementary School in Santa Ana, CA to surprise four teachers who had posted literacy-related projects on DonorsChoose by fully funding all their projects. Teachers included Mrs. Mireles who has “Eager Readers” that needed more books, Mr. Garcia who was hoping for “high interest” books for his students, Ms. Smith who wanted “Books to Make Avid Readers” and Mrs. Bravo who need “More Graphic Novels” for her kids to read.
As Mr. Garcia wrote, “This project will make a big impact in my students’ lives since they will continue to read books they actually want to read. As many of these books are not found in our school library, you can rest assured that once these books make it onto my shelves, they will be read constantly throughout the year.” We couldn’t agree more. Getting high-interest books into the hands of deserving students is what Rise Up Foundation is all about. We also agreed with Ms. Smith who wrote, ” Students will learn so much from what lies in the pages of these books, but they will also learn about the generosity of others. My students will learn that someone they don’t even know cares about them and their future. I know that this gift of books will touch their hearts as well as their minds.”
We were so impressed by the students and their teachers, that we went ahead and donated $500 toward purchasing new books for the school library. Thanks to Principal Dr. Bertrand for having us out and letting us visit with these amazing students and their teachers. Keep up the good work!
